Free Trees Available Now from Taking Root

We’d like to share a unique opportunity for you to receive a free tree for your yard. Through a partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation’s Energy-Saving Trees program, we are giving away a number trees to help residents in target neighborhoods of Covington and Newport reduce energy costs through strategic tree planting. In addition, planting trees in your yard can provide tangible community benefits like stormwater runoff reduction, improved air quality, and beautification of your neighborhood. 

Starting April 1st, eligible residents can reserve a free tree at  (If any eligible Covington residents need access to a computer in order to register please call Shannon Ratterman with the Center for Great Neighborhoods at 859-547-5541 for assistance.) 

On this site, you can use the online tool to determine the best location in your yard to plant your new free tree for maximum savings on your energy bill. This tool will also estimate the annual savings that will result from the tree. In exchange for the free tree, you are expected to plant it in the location provided by the online tool and provide ongoing care. 

Your 5 gallon tree will be available for pick-up Sat April 27 from 10-3 in Newport. The site is the Peace Bell parking lot at 425 York Street between 4th and 5th, Newport, KY. For questions regarding pick-up call Rachel Comte at 859-638-2044.
